Potomac Chapter Steps Up for Global Impact

The Potomac Chapter of the Adjutant General Corps Regimental Association (AGCRA) is proving that when it comes to service, they never miss a step. In a recent fundraiser and community service project, members laced up their boots and hit the ground running—collecting hundreds of pairs of gently used shoes to support micro-entrepreneurs around the world. These shoes, once destined for dusty closets, are now walking toward a brighter future.
Spearheaded by always running CW5 Danyl Thompson, the initiative was more than just a shoe drive—it was a march toward economic empowerment. The collected footwear is shipped to developing countries, where micro-entrepreneurs sell them in local markets. The proceeds help these individuals’ put food on the table, send their children to school, and take steps—literally and figuratively—out of poverty. Thompson, known for her tireless dedication and polished leadership, said, “We wanted to do something that had real traction. This project lets us support communities globally while strengthening our own bonds locally.”
Heels of History: G.A. Redding Shares His Wisdom
During one of the collection events, AGCRA founding member G.A. Redding made a special appearance, bringing with him decades of experience and a sole-full dose of inspiration. Redding, whose contributions helped shape the Corps, shared stories that reminded everyone why they joined the AGCRA in the first place: to serve with heart, honor, and a well-shined pair of oxfords. To learn more about G.A. Redding check out his biography.
“Every step we take in service matters,” Redding said. “Even if it’s just helping someone find the right pair of shoes, it’s a step in the right direction.”

Putting Their Best Foot Forward
From combat boots to sneakers, the Potomac Chapter collected a wide variety of footwear—each pair representing a chance for someone to walk toward opportunity. The event was filled with camaraderie, laughter, and just the right amount of shoe puns to keep spirits as high as the donated heals. One volunteer quipped, “We’re not just filling shoes—we’re filling futures.” Another added, “This project really keeps us on our toes!”
A Footnote Worth Remembering
As hundreds of shoes make their way across the globe, the Potomac Chapter continues to prove that service doesn’t always require a uniform—sometimes, it just takes a good pair of soles and a whole lot of soul.
So, here’s to the AGCRA Potomac Chapter: walking the walk, talking the talk, and never afraid to put their foot down for a good cause.
